SROH Performance / Presentation Anxiety:

To be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; to be credible we must truthful. ~ Edward R. Murrow

The horses will help participants find their voice and authenticity behind the spoken words. Most often, in business meetings, presentations, negotiations, and public speaking situations we only have minutes to establish that memorable and lasting "first impression." If performance anxiety is an issue, working with horses is an interactive way to identify and overcome specific challenges or obstacles in getting your point across in a way that communicates to your audience truth and authenticity (ie: creating the desire for them to want to listen and become a captive audience). Incongruence and lack of sincerity or commitment has the potential to alienate your audience and prevent them from connecting or hearing your message...leaving you feeling un-"herd".

One example of an exercise that we use for this workshop is to have participants attempt to garner the attention of their audience, in this case horses, without the use of words. Participants would have to rely solely on getting their equine listeners to "tune in" simply by focusing on proximity, posturing, breathing, rhythmic movements, visual focus, and intent. Once participants realize that this is actually possible, they learn the importance of having physical presence and that if they start out by feeling at home in their "presence" then it become much easier to add on the word and verbal messages. Oddly enough, when we then ask the group to establish physical presence first and then deliver any verbal speech or message to the horses, we find that they pay attention to the speaker even though they cannot speak the language. Not to mention that it's a confidence builder to practice your presentation in front of the horses before doing it in public. The horses can demonstrate "boredom" just like people can, so if the horses are engaged - chances are your human audience will be also.

Workshops can be customized for your group or also scheduled as a private workshop. This workshop is ideal for corporate, performers, public speakers, presenters, athletes, and students. Please contact us for additional information.

What convinces is conviction. Believe in the argument you are advancing. If you don't you're as good as dead. The other person will sense that something isn't right, and no chain of reasoning, no matter how logical or elegant or brilliant, will win your case for you. ~ President Lyndon B. Johnson

SROH "Know Thyself" Lab Session Workshop:

All Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions at Spring Reins of Hope offer an opportunity to learn more about how your body is "giving you away" to the horses. More often than not, individuals are disconnected from their bodies and unaware of the signals they are communicating non-verbally. Spring Reins of Hope offers a psychophsiological component meant as yet an additional layer to "Know Thyself" - for it was the Greek philosopher, Socrates, who coined the term to emphasize the growth in committing to knowing oneself.

While horses are natures premier somatic thermostats we can offer concrete feedback, anchored on scientific measures, on the importance of self-regulation and its effects on the horse and relationships. The biofeedback assessment gives the participant a sneak peek of what the horses may present for them. Oftentimes, this preliminary information can help participants consider new choices for old habits. These lab sessions are meant to provide additional insight about one's physiological response to stimuli and introduce effective techniques that can help you prepare to interact with our 4 legged teachers. Sessions can be arranged as a group experience or customized for each individual within the group. The "Know Thyself" lab session is available as an additional component to all EAL workshops at Spring Reins of Hope, and is also the base for one of our corporate training workshops, Hidden Tails.

All lab sessions must be scheduled in advance due to the fact that we are using scientific machinery / equipment and must allow appropriate time for that. These sessions will employ biofeedback equipment assessing somatic markers such as heart rate, muscle tension, skin temperature, skin conductance, heart rate variability (marker of autonomic nervous system function), and respiratory measures. Biofeedback techniques will be employed pending a psychophysiological assessment.
